Henry Fraser

Henry Fraser is a double bassist and composer whose practice spans improvisation, composition, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Based in New York since 2014, Fraser has worked with Ka Baird, John Zorn, Mary Halvorson, Randall Dunn, and Joey Arias, performing internationally at Moers Festival, Unsound, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center. His work treats improvisation as a flexible framework for exploring forms that are frequently communal, ceremonial, or devotional in character. Since 2019 he has focused on solo double bass — developing a practice centered on resonance, physical gesture, and extended acoustic inquiry. His fourth solo album, Pneuma, will be released by Kou Records in 2026.
