Noh Age is a new trio with vocalist Charmaine Lee (AUS/US), contrabass clarinetist John McCowen (US/IS), and sheng performer Li-Chin Li (Taiwan).
Charmaine Lee is an Australian, New York-based composer, vocalist, and founder of Kou Records, whose work moves between experimental music, extended vocal practice, and new composition. John McCowen is a Brooklyn-based composer and performer who has spent over a decade developing the contrabass clarinet as an acoustic synthesizer, releasing on International Anthem, Edition Wandelweiser, and Astral Spirits, with formative collaborations alongside Roscoe Mitchell. Li-Chin Li is a Taiwanese sheng soloist, composer, and improviser — formerly of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra — whose practice bridges traditional instrument and contemporary electronics, with performances across Europe, Asia, and North America. The three met in 2025 and formed Noh Age for their debut performance at Deep Time Festival in Edinburgh.
